Every summer, the Children’s Dept. at Cork City Libraries hosts a reading challenge for their kids. To mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, the theme of this year’s challenge was Rise Up And Read.

Children received a stamp in their Rise Up And Read booklet for every book they completed over the summer, and would earn some great rewards along the way to encourage them. I was tasked with creating the reading challenge booklet, as well as the associated promotional materials. I developed a narrative based on the Children’s Library mascot – a bird named Red – traveling back in time to meet a motley squadron of birds engaged in a desperate battle for survival!
